What is DPDT

In electronic components, 'DPDT' stands for Double-Pole, Double-Throw. This is a term for a type of electronic component such as a switch or relay.

A DPDT switch or relay has a total of four pins or connection points and is used to control two independent switching circuits. Each circuit has three connection states, which are represented by 'Pole' and 'Throw'.

Pole: Refers to the state of three controlled connections among the pins of a switch or relay. They are usually labeled Pole 1 and Pole 2.

Throw: Refers to the switching action that controls the state of each Pole. 'Single-Throw' means connected or disconnected state, 'Double-Throw' means two connection states.

So a DPDT switch or relay has two poles, and each pole has two throws. DPDT switches or relays configured in this way are used in various circuits, such as electromagnetic pulses, power selection, and circuit switching.

DPDT switches are used to switch or select two independent circuits simultaneously and can be useful in complex control systems or applications. It is also an electronic component often used for state memory switches, motor direction control, and audio stereo selection.
