What is GERMANIUM

Germanium is one of the elements used in semiconductor devices, and is represented by the element symbol Ge in the periodic table. Germanium has a high electron transfer rate and is excellent at transmitting electricity, and is mainly used in semiconductor devices.

Germanium was used as an early semiconductor device in electronics. However, they are now primarily used in near-infrared (IR) lasers, optics, and other devices operating under extreme conditions. Following are the main uses and properties of Germanium:

IR Lasers: Germanium is used as an optical material in near-infrared (IR) lasers. These lasers are used in communications, optical measurement, and sensor applications.

Optics: Germanium is used in the manufacture of optical lenses, mirrors, windows, optical filters and optical prisms in the infrared spectrum.

High-temperature applications: Germanium has excellent electrical stability in high-temperature environments, which is an advantage when used as key components or sensors.

Semiconductor devices: Germanium was initially used as a semiconductor device, but is now mainly used in near-infrared electronic devices and optical devices.

Thermoelectric elements: Germanium is used as a raw material for thermoelectric elements. Thermoelectric elements enable conversion between heat and electrical energy, and some thermoelectric elements are made based on Germanium.

Germanium has high electron transfer rates and thermal conductivity, making it useful in some special applications. However, silicon or other semiconductor materials are generally used instead of Germanium in more widely used semiconductor devices.
