What is HALF-BRIDGE


“Half-bridge” is an important circuit component used in electronics and power electronics. Half-bridges are used in power transmission and power conversion applications, and are especially often seen in high-frequency switching power inverters and DC-AC converters.

A half-bridge circuit is basically constructed using two switches (usually a transistor or IGBT - Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor). These two switches are connected between the output regions at both ends, respectively, and take the output from the midpoint.

Half-bridge circuits are mainly used for:

Power Inverter: Half-bridge is used to convert direct current power to alternating current power. These inverters are mainly used in solar inverters, converters, wireless power transmission systems, etc.

Motor Control: Half-bridge circuits are used to control a variety of motors ranging from small electronic devices to large electric machines.

Power supplies: Half-bridges are used to generate or regulate specific voltage levels.

Switched-Mode Power Supply (SMPS): Half-bridge is used as one of the core circuits in SMPS, supporting efficient power conversion.

Half-bridge circuits play an important role in power electronics learning and design. These circuits perform well in high-voltage, high-current applications, maximizing power efficiency and providing advanced features for power conversion and control.
