HEXFET stands for “High-Efficiency eXpansion FET” and refers to a specific type of metal oxide semiconductor transistor (MOSFET) used in power conversion. HEXFETs are designed for low voltage operation and high current operation and are known for their ability to handle high voltages and currents. These properties allow them to be used for efficient power conversion and regulation and are widely used in high-frequency applications.
In particular, HEXFETs are useful for reducing power consumption and increasing power efficiency because of their low resistance and excellent ability to pass current efficiently. These features are used in a variety of power electronics and applications, including high-performance power supplies, DC-DC converters, motor control, and lighting systems. HEXFETs were first developed by Entegris Semiconductor (International Rectifier) and are currently manufactured and sold through Infineon Technologies, a subsidiary of Entegris.
