What is PF

In electronic components, PF stands for Power Factor.

It represents the ratio of active power to apparent power in the power system and is an indicator of power efficiency.

Typically, the power supply in a home or industrial electrical system is alternating current (AC).

At this time, if some electrical loads are made up of inductors or capacitors, these loads react to the power supply and generate different active power and apparent power.

This is one of the factors that reduce the efficiency of power. To improve this, PF is used.

PF represents the ratio of active power to apparent power, and the closer this value is to 1, the higher the power efficiency.

In other words, the higher the PF, the higher the proportion of active power in the power circuit, resulting in higher power efficiency.

In electronic components, PF mainly plays an important role in power circuits or power supply systems.

In power circuits, the higher the PF, the lower the loss of power and thus the lower the electricity cost.

Also, in the power supply system, the amount of penalty imposed by the electric company increases when the PF is low, so PF improvement is necessary.

Therefore, PF is one of the important indicators of the efficiency of an electrical system.

In electronic components, various components for PF improvement are being developed, and these components are used in power circuits or power supply systems.
