What is SMD


SMD stands for Surface-Mounted Device. It is a type of electronic component that is designed to be mounted on the surface of a printed circuit board (PCB) rather than through holes as with traditional through-hole components.

SMD components are much smaller than through-hole components and are more suitable for high-density applications, where a large number of components need to be placed in a small area.

The small size and light weight of SMD components also make them ideal for portable electronics, such as smartphones and laptops.

SMD components are soldered directly to the surface of the PCB, which eliminates the need for through-hole plating and saves space on the board. This makes it possible to design smaller and more compact electronic devices.

SMD components are also more reliable than through-hole components because they are less likely to be damaged during assembly or use.

The lack of leads makes SMD components more resistant to vibration and shock, which helps to ensure long-term reliability and performance.
