What is SOCKET

A socket refers to a mechanical component that is used to hold an electronic component or semiconductor device in place on a printed circuit board (PCB).

Electronic components such as ICs (integrated circuits), transistors, and diodes are usually supplied in a package that has a specific number of pins.

These pins need to be connected to the circuit on the PCB, and this is where sockets come in.

A socket is a connector that matches the pin configuration of a specific component package.

The component is inserted into the socket, and the socket is then soldered onto the PCB.

This allows the component to be easily removed or replaced if necessary, without the need for desoldering and resoldering.

Sockets are particularly useful for ICs, which can be expensive and difficult to replace if they are damaged or need to be upgraded.

Sockets are also used for testing and development purposes, allowing components to be quickly and easily swapped in and out of a circuit during the design phase.
