What is SYNCHRONOUS


Synchronous is one of the terms used in electronic components.

Synchronous refers to synchronized operation, meaning that multiple electronic components operate based on the same clock signal.

For example, Synchronous DRAM (SDRAM) is one of the most commonly used types of memory in computers.

SDRAM synchronizes the operation of memory cells to the system bus clock signal, ensuring that data is transferred accurately.

The term Synchronous is also frequently used in other technologies used to speed up data transfer.

For example, Synchronous Serial Interface (SSI) is a serial communication interface where multiple devices are synchronized based on a clock signal.

The opposite of Synchronous is Asynchronous, where Asynchronous refers to non-synchronized behavior.

In Asynchronous mode of operation, electronic components operate independently without a clock signal.

For example, Asynchronous DRAM (ADRAM), unlike SDRAM, operates without a clock signal and is often used in portable devices because of its low power consumption and low latency.
