What is TERMINATION

Termination in electronic components means electrical termination.

It is commonly used to reduce signal-damaging reflections on the transmission line of electromagnetic waves.

For example, when sending a signal on a cable or printed circuit board (PCB), the signal travels to the end of the cable or PCB.

At this point, when the signal hits the end, some of the signal may be reflected and collide again.

These reflections can cause signal corruption and reduced speed.

Termination is therefore used to minimize these reflections and reduce signal noise from the ends.

Termination is usually implemented using resistors, capacitors or diodes.

A resistor of 50 ohms is usually used to close the ends.

This minimizes signal reflections and speeds up the transmitted signal.
