What is diode

A diode is a type of electronic component that allows current to flow in only one direction.

It is made up of a semiconductor material with two electrodes, called the anode and cathode, attached to opposite ends of the material.

When a positive voltage is applied to the anode and a negative voltage to the cathode, current flows through the diode.

If the voltage is reversed, the diode blocks the flow of current. Diodes are commonly used in power supplies, radio frequency (RF) applications, and in rectifying alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC).
